The meadow is going dark, and you are its last light.

Steer a glowing firefly through the gloam with your mouse or finger. Gather motes to keep your light alive, slip past the shades that want to snuff it out, and see how deep into the night you can dive.

How it plays

  • Move your mouse or drag your finger to guide the firefly.
  • Collect green motes to refill your light. Chain them quickly to build a combo of up to x8.
  • Golden motes give a big score bonus and restore your light completely.
  • Star pickups charge your Nova. Double-tap (or press Space) to blast nearby shades away.
  • When your light runs out, the run ends.

Eight layers of night The higher your score, the deeper you go: the Meadow, the Marsh, the Hollow, the Deep, the Dawn, the Ember Sea, the Glass Wood and the Star Well. Each has its own sky, colors and mood, and the Deep is so dark you can only see by your own light.

Things that want your light

  • Drifters chase you across the meadow.
  • Lurkers are huge, slow and hard to shake.
  • Darters flash a warning line, then dash.
  • Wraiths weave toward you through the Marsh.
  • Beams sweep across the sky in the Hollow, so watch for the glow before they strike.
  • Rings ripple outward in the Ember Sea.

Grow your firefly

  • Earn embers every run and spend them on 10 permanent upgrades, each with 10 levels.
  • Unlock 8 firefly colors, from Amber to Frost.
  • Complete 19 quests for bonus embers.
  • Climb from Ember to Sun-heart as you earn.
  • Reach the Deep, then Rekindle: start over for Stardust, which boosts every ember you earn from then on.

Survival layer

  • Auto-attack: your firefly fires sparks at the nearest shade on its own. Shades now have health, so you can kill them.
  • Shards and levelling: kills drop shards, which give XP. Each level-up pauses the game and offers 3 random perks (press 1/2/3 on desktop). There are 12 perks: more sparks, piercing, orbiting moths, glow pulses, star-rain bolts, extra damage, speed, pickup reach, slower fade, light from shards, shields and Nova charges.
  • Wardens: each new layer (from the Marsh on) brings a boss with a health bar and a burst of dashes. Killing it drops a golden mote and a pile of shards.
  • Swarms: every 25 seconds or so, a ring of shades closes in from all sides.
  • Meta progression: two new upgrades (Keen Sparks, Quick Learner) and 7 new quests, so 12 upgrades and 26 quests in total. Your old saves still load.

Daily Challenge

  • Tonight's modifiers: two random ones, the same for everyone, from Swarm, Blackout, Fading Light, Brittle, Frenzy, Famine and Thick Hides.
  • Harder base: tougher and faster shades, and your permanent upgrades are switched off so scores are comparable. That is one setting to flip if you'd rather let upgrades count.
  • Medals: Bronze at 150 points pays 60 embers, Silver at 260 pays 150, and Gold at 400 pays 320. Each is paid once per day.
  • Streak and Crownlight: the streak bonus now caps at 70 embers. Five Gold days unlock the Crownlight firefly, which can't be bought.
  • Screens: a new briefing screen before each attempt, and the share text now includes the modifiers and your medal.
